How does my organization become a food pantry partner?

Your agency must meet all the requirements set by the Food Bank in order to become a partner, but the basic requirements include:

  • - The perspective pantry must be recognized by the IRS as having a current 501(c)3 tax exemption, (501(c)3 is different from your (EIN) employee identification number and your (FIN) federal identification number) .
  • -The perspective pantry must have a sign that indicates both the presence of a food program and the days and hours of operation, and the perspective pantry must be located in the 24-county area served by the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.

How much does it cost to become a partner pantry?

  • There is a one-time $35 application fee that is non-refundable, and covers the cost of processing and the site visit. In addition, partner pantries are expected to help with the cost generated by the transportation and storage of food at the Food Bank. This is called a Service Maintenance Fee, which is designed to offset the cost that the Food Bank must pay for transportation, handling, and storage of the large volume of at the Food Bank. Each partner pantry is expected to pay 19 cents per pound for food they collect. However, we never charge for any of the food pantries use. There is also an annual fee of $65 due by the last Monday in February.

How frequently does a food pantry pick up food?

  • Partner pantries are expected to pick up food no less than once per quarter, but no more than once per week. Pantries should make appointments to pick up a reasonable amount time in advance, while keeping in mind that the Food Bank serves many pantries. Appointments can be made by calling 478-742-3958 and selecting option 4. Our hours for pick up are Monday-Friday from 9am until 11:30am and 1pm until 2pm. However, the last day of each month pick up times are limited to 9am until 11:30am.

Does the Food Bank deliver?

  • No, partner agencies must provide their own transportation to the Food Bank at 4490 Ocmulgee East Boulevard.

What kind of food is available?

  • The Food Bank receives almost every type of food product that could be found in a grocery store, including perishables and non-perishables. Partner pantries are expected to come to the Food Bank with an idea of which foods they would like to take back to their pantry. However, pantries should keep in mind that food options and availability widely vary, so it is important to remain flexible.

What are the final steps to becoming a partner pantry?

  • Complete the New Agency Packet by downloading here or calling 478-742-3958 then selecting option 3 to have the packet sent to the prospective pantry.
  • Submit application along with the $25 application fee, and 501(c)3 form by mailing it to 4490 Ocmulgee E. Blvd Macon, GA 31208 or bringing the documents directly to the Food Bank’s office.
  • Schedule a site visit by calling our Agency Relations Coordinator, Wendy, at 478-257-6437. View our Site Visit Guidelines before the visit takes place in order to prepare your pantry appropriately.
  • Undergo new agency training, which is performed at the site visit by the Agency Relations Coordinator. New pantries are expected to read through the New Agency Training Powerpoint , then print and answer the questions on the discussion slide of the powerpoint before the training takes place.
